Accessibility Guide - Is Culls Cottage the perfect cottage for your stay?

Culls Cottage is a traditional stone built cottage the original part of which was built in the 1670s. As a consequence it has all the features and charm that are typical of an historic cottage, with some low beamed and slopping ceilings (upstairs) as well as some low doorways and some changes of level within the house.

We welcome all visitors but we know that this cottage may not be accessible for everyone, such as those in a wheelchair. We have included many pictures of the cottage on this site, plus many more on our Pinterest Pages. Do also take the ‘Step in Tour virtual‘ of Culls Cottage to make sure that it is the perfect cottage for your stay.

Parking

The cottage sits on the roadside in the heart of the rural village of Southropand secure off street parking is available at the back of the cottage for up to four cars. Additional parking is available on the road outside the cottage and there are no parking restrictions. Entry to the off-street parking is limited in width and so larger cars may find it easier to park on the roadside. There is Electric car charging available.

Ground Floor

Access to the cottage is through the front door which has hard paving to it (the front door leads into the snug) or via a glass door at the rear. There is a gate and gravel path that runs up the side of the cottage to the back door which is lit during hours of darkness.  The back door leads directly into the glass atrium and then the kitchen/diner. Off the atrium is a downstairs bedroom with ensuite bathroom (so this house would suit someone who is not able to easily manage stairs) and a lounge, all on the same level. The flooring throughout the ground floor is flag stones. The lounge has a wood burning stove. Off the lounge is a snug with day bed and desk. Most of the ground floor is even and on the same level but there is a small step down into the utility room of approximately two inches. There is a further toilet off the utility room.

First Floor

The stairs run off the lounge and are a good width and have a solid hand rail. The stairs is carpeted and the landing and bedrooms have wood paneled floors. The upstairs landing area has a change of level to bedroom number two and another change in level to the bathroom. This bathroom has an under floor heated stone floor and a walk-in shower, luxury double ended bath and toilet.

The Garden

The garden is large and contains graveled areas and lawn, with a mature willow tree that provides shade in the summer. There are a few steps up onto the lawned and terraced areas.
